Laser Acne Scar Removal

Active breakouts are frustrating enough, but the scars acne can leave behind can feel downright diabolical.  Acne scarring plagues the pores of so many who have long-since recovered from active acne. By the fact that nearly 40% of those with acne have some degree of scarring, Acne scars can result from loss of collagen in the skin. With the recent advent of laser technology and dermatological research, scars can be treated.

TRANSFORM YOUR SKIN FROM INSIDE OUT

Picoway® Resolve is an exciting technology that is showing excellent results for Acne Scar removal with minimal to no downtime. The 532nm/1,064nm picosecond holographic fractional handpiece improved acne scarring by an average of 28%, according to the results of a study published in Lasers in Surgery and Medicine (November 2017). The PicoWay laser literally works from the inside out. The treatment does not cause the outer layers of the skin to break, so patients enjoy low to no downtime after treatment.

The laser beams in PicoWay Resolve and Resolve Fusion are split a central beam into 100 identical beams, or beamlets. Resolve Fusion has a wider coverage area than Resolve. These beamlets reach below the skin’s surface in areas that are spaced evenly apart. Because the laser is so fast and powerful, creates a non-thermal effect, called a “photoacoustic” effect. Tiny open spaces are created under the skin that are then filled in over time with the growth of new collagen and elastin.

PicoWay Resolve is a treatment on the PicoWay laser system, using a laser handpiece that splits the full beam into tiny microbeams. This allows treatment of conditions like acne scars, wrinkles and dark spots.

PicoWay laser treatments are typically brief (15-20 minutes) and are done over a series of treatment sessions spaced weeks apart. Our doctor will recommend a treatment plan that works best for you

If you are looking for a laser treatment that acts below the surface of the skin and offers low to no downtime, PicoWay may be the right laser for you. Ask your doctor if the PicoWay laser can help minimize your acne scars or wrinkles, of if it can remove bothersome dark spots or tattoos that you no longer want.

Side effects with the PicoWay laser are typically mild and temporary and expected as part of the laser treatment. Patients experience low to no downtime. In some cases, patients may use a topical anesthetic to enhance comfort during the treatment. More common side effects include mild redness, swelling, and pinpoint bleeding. These effects will differ, however, depending on the treatment you receive.

How the PicoWay laser feels will be dependent on the treatment you receive. Those undergoing tattoo removal are likely to experience some pain and discomfort with treatment.

With PicoWay Resolve treatment, most patients reported low levels of pain during treatment for wrinkles and mild discomfort for acne scar or dark spot treatment.

Depending on the condition treated, you may be able to see initial improvement as early as after the first treatment. Typically, multiple treatment sessions are needed. As an example, a clinical study of benign pigmented lesions found that after 2 treatments, 87% of lesions had a least good response.
