Now, we have this injectable Belkyra treatment, can treat this submental fullness or “double chin” in a targeted way to dissolve the fat in little down time. Belkyra is manufactured by Allergan cosmetics, the same maker of Botox and Juvederm dermal fillers.
How does it work
Belkyra™ consists of a synthetic form of deoxycholic acid that- when injected into the area – destroy fat cell membranes, releasing the fat and permitting it to be naturally eliminated from the body. This results in a slimming effect on the chin, and the result is permanent once the desired profile is achieved.
Once injected, Belkyra™ is indistinguishable from what is found circulating our body, which makes Belkyra™ a completely safe and highly effective treatment option. Most importantly, each Belkyra™ treatment only takes between 15 to 20 minutes over a set timeline to deliver permanent gradual results. For the majority of patients, the recovery time after a Belkyra™ treatment is minimal. Ice or cold packs can be used for 10 to 20 minutes as needed on treatment areas to reduce any discomfort or swelling.
You can return to normal activities immediately after the procedure. Generally, we see results within a few weeks for some patients.

During the consultation session, our plastic surgeon will exam the course and location of significant blood vessels and nerves, muscles, salivary glands and lymph nodes to safely reach the desired result.
Pre and Post care of Belkyra
Belkyra Pre-care Instruction
- Do NOT consume alcoholic beverages at least 24 hours prior to treatment
- Avoid anti-inflammatory/blood thinning medications, fish oil, ginseng, vitamin A, and vitamin E for a period of 1-2 weeks before treatment.
- Reschedule your appointment at least 24 hours in advance if you have a rash, cold sore or blemish on the area.
- You are not a candidate if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Belkyra After-care Instruction
- Avoid extreme temperatures of heat for 24 hours post treatment
- Do NOT consume alcohol or sodium for 3 days post treatment to avoid excess swelling.
- Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours post treatment.
- Sleep on your back with your head elevated to decrease swelling.
- Bruising, redness and swelling is possible and will disappear overtime
